USDT Interest Rates in the United Kingdom (2026): Where You Can Earn

The UK is the rare case where the problem is not picking the best rate — it is that there is almost nothing to pick from. Many of the large exchanges keep their earn products closed to UK residents, and the list changes as venues leave or return under FCA rules — the table below shows only the venues that do not exclude UK residents in their own terms. This is not about sanctions or tax. After the FCA's financial promotions regime took effect in October 2023, several exchanges chose to withdraw their earn products from the country rather than rebuild them to British rules.

💬 Context: money in the United Kingdom

Holding and buying crypto is legal in the UK. What is regulated is not the asset but its promotion: since 8 October 2023 crypto marketing falls under the FCA's financial promotions regime, with a mandatory risk warning. A cryptoasset firm serving UK customers must be registered with the FCA under the money-laundering rules. Kraken is on that register as PAYWARD LTD., reference number 928768. Uphold, Bitstamp, Bitpanda and Crypto.com are registered too. Registration means an AML check was done — it does not mean your money is protected.

Getting started

How to start, step by step

01
First check whether the venue serves UK users at all. Twelve of our thirty-seven do not, and that is better discovered before you sign up than after you try to withdraw.
02
For stablecoins the UK choice comes down to two positions, both on Kraken: USDT at 5.50% and USDC at 1.75%. That is not our shortlist of the best — it is everything available.
03
Look the firm up on the FCA Register by its legal name, not its brand. Kraken appears as PAYWARD LTD. — searching "Kraken" also returns a grocer and a plumbing company.
04
Do not confuse registration with protection. FCA registration is an anti-money-laundering check. The compensation scheme does not extend to crypto — that is the regulator's own position.
05
Read the base rate, not the shop window. We publish base rates and never promotional tiers: the figure you see here is the one paid with no conditions attached.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is it legal to earn interest on crypto in the UK?
Yes. Holding crypto and earning on it are both legal. What is regulated is the promotion of cryptoassets, not the holding itself. The income is generally taxable — HMRC treats staking and lending rewards as income.
Why can't I open an Earn product on Binance or Bybit?
Because those venues closed their earn products to UK users. Twelve in our data did: Binance, Bybit, OKX, Bitget, Gate.io, Nexo, Ledn, Bitvavo, Bitfinex, BingX, Robinhood and Telegram Wallet. That was the venues' own decision after the 2023 promotion rules tightened, not a ban on holding crypto.
Is my money protected if the exchange is FCA-registered?
No. The FCA states plainly that crypto is largely unregulated in the UK and that coverage by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme is highly unlikely. Registration confirms an anti-money-laundering check was passed — nothing more. The £85,000 bank guarantee does not apply to an exchange account.
