USDT Interest Rates in Australia (2026): Where You Can Earn

Australia is the mirror image of the UK. There the question is where you are let in at all; here almost every venue we track does not exclude Australians in its own terms. The question is a different one: what protects your money on the venue you pick, and on what terms the specific earn product is open to you, not just the account. Kraken, for one, does not offer Opt-In Rewards in Australia: its USDT earns nothing here, and its USDC goes through a different programme — 2% without a subscription instead of 4%. This page shows the rates venues pay Australians specifically.

💬 Context: money in Australia

Holding and buying crypto is legal in Australia. Exchanges that swap crypto for money register with AUSTRAC as digital currency exchange providers — Kraken operates here through Bit Trade Pty Ltd, OKX through OKX Australia Pty Ltd. Most of the other venues in the table serve Australians under their global terms, through offshore companies.

Earn products went to court in 2026. On 17 June 2026 the High Court of Australia ruled unanimously, 7–0, that Earner — Block Earner's fixed-yield digital asset product — was a financial product, and that offering it required an Australian financial services licence (AFSL). The ruling overturned the Full Federal Court's 2025 decision. On 1 April 2026 Parliament passed the Corporations Amendment (Digital Assets Framework) Act 2026; ASIC says it commences in April 2027.

Getting started

How to start, step by step

01
Check the product, not just the venue. A venue can accept Australians but not offer them a particular earn product: Kraken's Opt-In Rewards and DeFi Earn are not available in Australia, as its own licensing page says. So there is no Kraken USDT here, and its USDC comes through Stablecoin Rewards — 2% without a subscription, up to 4% with paid Kraken+. The table shows 2%.
02
Find out which company you are contracting with. OKX's Australian terms (effective 6 October 2026) list exchange, derivatives, margin and On-Chain Earn, but not Simple Earn, where all our OKX rates come from — so OKX is not in the table. Binance also runs a separate local company, Binance Australia, registered with AUSTRAC; its own site says its application to ASIC for a financial services licence (AFSL) is still pending. Before you move money, confirm in the app that the product is open to your account.
03
Do not confuse AUSTRAC registration with protection. It is an anti-money-laundering check; the A$250,000 guarantee covers banks, not exchanges.
04
Read the base rate, not the shop window. We publish base rates and never promotional tiers: the figure you see here is the one paid with no conditions attached.
05
Keep records for the ATO from day one: the date, the coin, the amount and its value in Australian dollars at each payout. Rebuilding that later from an exchange history is much harder.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is it legal to earn interest on crypto in Australia?
Yes. Holding crypto and earning on it are both legal. After the High Court's June 2026 ruling, a digital asset yield product can be a financial product, but the duty to hold a licence falls on whoever offers it, not on you. The income is taxable: the ATO treats staking rewards as ordinary income.
Is my money on an exchange covered by the A$250,000 guarantee?
No. The Financial Claims Scheme covers deposits with banks, credit unions and building societies — up to A$250,000 per account holder per institution. A crypto exchange is not one of them, even if it is registered with AUSTRAC.
Why does Kraken show no USDT here, and only 2% on USDC?
Because Kraken pays USDT only through Opt-In Rewards, and Kraken's own licensing page says that product is not available in Australia. For USDC Australians get a different programme, Stablecoin Rewards: 2% without a subscription and up to 4% with paid Kraken+. We show the rate without a subscription. Kraken's staking of other coins stays open to Australians.
Will the new digital assets law change this?
The Act passed on 1 April 2026 and, according to ASIC, commences in April 2027; the regulator is now drafting the standards and licensing requirements. Until then the table on this page shows what venues offer Australians under their terms today — we revise it when those terms change.
